Three Peaks Challenge 11th-12th April 2026

From 6am on 11th April until 6am on 12th April 2026 a team of 9 wonderful parents, teachers & staff from our school will attempt the Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for the Playground Renovation project which will enhance our children’s outdoor learning & play spaces.

What is the challenge?

An exhilarating UK endurance event involving hiking the highest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales – within 24 hours. It's a test of endurance, teamwork, and determination.

The three peaks are

● Ben Nevis (1,345 m or 4,413 ft) in Scotland

● Scafell Pike (978 m or 3,209 ft) in England

● Snowdon (1,085 m or 3,560 ft) in Wales

The total walking distance is about 23-26 miles (37-42 km), with a combined vertical ascent over 3,000 meters/10,000 ft. To put this in perspective, the total ascent is roughly equivalent to ten times the height of the UK tallest building, The Shard, or to put it another way, approximately one-third of the total height of Mount Everest!

Ben Nevis will be climbed first, starting at 6am and finishing around 11am on 11th April, when they will then drive 6 hours to Scafell Pike & climb from 5pm until 9pm, starting the five-hour drive to Snowdon, which they will climb from 2am and finish the challenge at 6am on 12th April.

They will also be driving approximately 460 miles (740 km) between the mountains within the 24 hours.

Who is taking part?

Teachers & staff: Mrs Allaway, Mrs Bateman, Mrs Byde and Mrs Roberts (leading the team); and

Parents: Abi (parent of Ozzy in Y2), Clare (parent of James in Y6), Claire (parent of Alfie in Y2), Sam (parent of Rowan in Y6 & Evelyn in Y2) and Sarah (parent of Arthur in Y2 & Evie in YR).

They are taking time out from being with their families to train, with the parents taking time off work and the teachers/staff time out of their Easter holiday to do the challenge over the weekend of 10-12th April. A further group of volunteers will be supporting the team over the weekend(and they will all be back teaching our children 3 days later!).

On Sunday 25th January, the team invited the school community to join them on part of their training walk. It was great to see so many of you there, and I know your support meant a lot to the team. A special thank you & well done to all the children who took part. You can see some photos attached.

The next walk will be on Sunday 1st March, meeting at The Bedford Arms again at 3pm - everyone is welcome.
